Aromatic Waters
in Skincare

Aromatic waters are often treated as a single category, gentle alternatives, lighter options, or diluted versions of something else. In reality, hydrosols and flower waters are two very different expressions of plant material in water. The difference isn’t just aromatic, it’s structural, chemical, and functional. And once you understand that difference, their roles in skincare and aromatherapy become much clearer.

Flower Waters: Aromatic Waters by Design

Flower waters, while visually similar, are created through a different process. At Ahimsa Oils, our flower waters are formulated using purified water, a natural solubiliser, and our carefully measured 100% pure & natural essential oils. This allows aromatic compounds to disperse evenly throughout the water, creating a stable and consistent product with a clearly recognisable scent.

Where hydrosols express what the plant naturally releases into water during distillation, flower waters are shaped intentionally, & designed to offer a gentle but more defined aromatic presence. This makes flower waters ideal when scent clarity matters.

Choosing Between Them

Hydrosols are often the better choice when the skin is the priority, especially for toning, calming, or daily facial care. Flower waters are often the better choice when aroma is the priority, as they’re gentle, recognisable, and easy to use. However, both are valuable. Neither replaces the other. They simply reflect different relationships between plant, water, and intention, and understanding that distinction allows aromatic waters to be used with clarity rather than assumption!
