Clove Essential Oil: The Ultimate and Natural Solution for Mould Removal

Information to help with anyone having mould issues at present.

We always receive a lot of orders for Clove from our customers in Far North Queensland yearly between December and February in particular so I thought this information may help with anyone having mould issues at present. Mould as we all know can be a persistent and harmful problem in homes, causing a range of health issues such as allergies and respiratory problems. Traditional mould removal methods often involve harsh chemicals that only bleach and hide the problem, while the spores remain intact and ready to grow back.  Clove Essential Oil, with its powerful antimicrobial properties, is a game-changer when it comes to mould removal as a natural and effective solution.

So why Clove Essential Oil is your Best Choice for Mould Removal?

One of the main reasons why Clove Oil is so effective is that rather than merely masking the problem it targets the spores. Clove Essential Oil ensures that the mould does not have a chance to grow back, providing long-lasting protection for your home and your family.  At the heart of Clove Essential Oil's potency lies its dominating constituent, eugenol. This powerful compound lends the oil its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antiseptic properties and it is these properties that make it so effective for mould removal.

How to Use Clove Oil for Mould Removal

1. Mix Clove Oil with Water

Simply mix a quarter of a teaspoon of pure clove oil (approximately 24 drops) with a litre of water.  It is essential not to make the solution any stronger, as not only may it not be more effective it can potentially damage surfaces.  It is always advisable to try the spray on a small hidden part of the surface first to ensure that it will not stain. Transfer the mixture into a spray bottle, shake well and lightly mist it over the affected areas. This method is suitable for countertops, tiles, and other non-porous surfaces.  At Ahimsa we stock both 100% Pure and Natural Clove Bud Oil as well as Clove Soluble Oil. Clove Soluble is mixed with solubiliser at a 50/50 ratio so that it can disperse in water for ease of use. Either may be used to remove mould. If using the clove soluble solution mix double the amount in the 1 litre of water as it is at 50% strength.

2. Mix Clove Oil with Vinegar

Vinegar as we know is a powerful natural cleaner and also a great companion to clove oil when it comes to fighting mould. To create another simple mould remover spray, use:

  • ⅓ cup of white vinegar
  • ⅓ cup of distilled water
  • A glass spray bottle
  • 3 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
  • 11 drops of Clove essential oil
Combine all the ingredients and shake well to ensure proper mixing. Spray the solution onto mouldy surfaces and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it clean. Vinegar helps to further disinfect the area, while Tea Tree Oil and Clove Oil provide additional antimicrobial properties.

3. Mix Clove Oil with Washing Detergent

When dealing with mould on fabrics or clothing, a combination of Clove Oil and washing detergent can be highly effective. Similar to other essential oils like Oregano and Thyme, Clove Oil has antimicrobial properties that aid in mould removal. Add a few drops of Clove Oil to your regular washing detergent and wash the affected items as usual. This method helps eliminate mould from the fabric and leaves a pleasant scent behind.

4. Use Clove Oil in the Washing Machine

If you suspect mould is present in your washing machine or on your clothes, adding about 10 drops of Clove Oil to the drum can be beneficial. Run a hot cycle, preferably at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius or higher, and for a longer duration. This will effectively kill any mould and spores present, leaving your washing machine and clothes fresh and mould-free.

5. Consider Other Areas Where Mould May Be Hiding

Mould can thrive in various areas of your home beyond just visible spots. Pay attention to common hiding spots, such as bathroom tiles, grout lines, window sills, and under sinks. Regularly inspect these areas to be able to address any signs of mould growth.
