Thieves Oil

As the days get shorter and colder, generally we know that the flu and cold season is upon us. I have always been fascinated by the story of the “Thieves Oil” dating back to the 1400’s when the “Black Death or Bubonic Plague” devastated large parts of France.

The sickness was highly contagious so spread rapidly and most people who caught the disease ultimately passed. During this time there was a story about Four Thieves who were perfume and spice merchants that stole from the sick and dying but never contracted the plague. When they were caught, they imparted the secret of how they were able to escape contracting the disease. The men had prepared an oil recipe which they applied to their hands, feet and a mask over their face to prevent them getting infected. Doctors then began wearing masks with these infusions when treating patients. The oils that were used by the “Thieves” were a combination of Clove, Cinnamon, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary. At Ahimsa we developed a 100% Pure and Natural Blend of these oils for diffusing that we call “Sentinel”. A combination of 100% Pure and Natural oils, Lavender, Lemon, Pine, Rosalina, Siberian Fir Needle and Marjoram, this blend is not only great for diffusing for children, its properties help to protect against airborne disease. The Lavender and Marjoram in particular give this blend a warm, relaxing aroma when diffused.
