Oakmoss Absolute, extracted from the lichen Evernia prunastri, is one of the most iconic and valued ingredients in traditional perfumery. Its rich, complex aroma - earthy, woody, and slightly sweet with a faint turpentine note, forms the foundation of countless classic fragrances. Acting as a powerful fixative, it lends depth, longevity, and a sense of natural harmony to any blend, evoking the scent of a forest floor after rain.
In aromatherapy, Oakmoss Absolute is valued not only for its grounding fragrance but also for its ability to calm the mind and ease nervous tension. Uses
Best suited for natural perfumery and grounding aromatherapy blends. Blend with alcohol based perfume bases rather than carrier oils, or use in minimal quantities (0.1%) for skin safe applications.
Note: This absolute is highly viscous and may need gentle warming to pour. It will not disperse very well in some carrier oils and is best blended with alcohol for perfumery use.
Shelf Life
Use within 3 - 4 years. Store in an airtight amber bottle, away from light and heat. For best preservation, refrigerate at around 4°C and decant small working amounts as needed.
